Shooting, tinnitus and hearing loss

Some of our website visitors may have seen the recent pieces about The Tinnitus Clinic and Acoustic CR® Neuromodulation in Country Life Magazine and Shooting Gazette. These stories both mentioned the link between tinnitus, hearing loss and exposure to shot gun and rifle fire.

Whilst tinnitus is more common amongst those who are regularly exposed to loud noises, even a single incident of exposure can also trigger the condition. For people who regularly participate in shooting sports or have had a career in the military, the tinnitus often occurs in the ear on the opposite side to where the firearm was held.

Unfortunately for many of the people who are being treated for tinnitus today, the onset of their condition occurred before there was adequate ear protection available. However, The Tinnitus Clinic now provides a range of sophisticated ear defence mechanisms, which can be worn while shooting to reduce the risk of tinnitus and hearing loss.
